Summer Vacation 2011: Part 4-Route 66

Monday, July 26th, we took a day off of driving and hung out with my brother's family. He had to get up and work, but the rest of us slept in and had a relaxing day. Stephanie was a champ and took us to a train that the kids could play on.

We had to try Mr. D's homemade caramel root beer. Delicious! It has been featured as one of Oprah's favorite things and happens to be on Historic Route 66, which was another fun American history lesson for the kids. They got to be educated about who Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley were and why they are pictured all over.

I think they sucked out every last drop!

Across the street was a Route 66 museum! It was small but had some interesting artifacts. I especially liked the scenes they used to portray the Depression and then "the Good Times."

Let the Good Times Roll....

That evening, Baby Drew was not a happy camper and the restaurant we were going to try out was closed, so Wade got out his headlamps (Brilliant!) and gave them to the kids with his homemade marshmallow guns. They played for hours until way after dark! I loved getting to hold my cutie-patootie 2 month old nephew and chat with Steph for so long. Steve got his much needed nap and perscription, so he was a happier camper. This day was just what the doctor ordered! It's so great having such cool cousins (and aunts and uncles)!
